Across the nation, Americans are uniting to thank and honor Vietnam veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. This initiative is the main focus of the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration, a national 50th anniversary commemoration authorized by Congress, established under Secretary of Defense, and coordinated by the Department of Defense in conjunction with local communities.

Chattanooga and Hamilton County have partnered with the Department of Defense to recognize U.S. veterans who served between Nov. 1, 1955 and May 15, 1975 and their families. While the program acknowledges the distinction between veterans who service in the Republic of South Vietnam, in-theater and who were stationed elsewhere during this period, the committee honors all who served.

Chattanooga and Hamilton County’s Commemorative Committee is co-chaired by Major General Bill Raines, U.S. Army [Retired] and Linda Moss Mines, Chattanooga-Hamilton County historian.

Committee members include:
Rear Admiral Noah Long, U. S. Navy [Retired],
Mickey McCamish, President, Chattanooga Area Veterans Council,
Teresa Rimer, Cherokee District Director, TSDAR
William Sachse, Chattanooga National Cemetery
Bud Alley, Vietnam veteran and author
Dan Saieed, Vietnam veteran, Hamilton County Government
Warbrit Lowery, Vietnam veteran
John Edwards, Vietnam veteran, News Chronicle
Carol E. O’Bryan, Veterans Administration
Joe Gibson, Vietnam veteran

Special events are scheduled for March. For more information regarding the committee and its plans, contact Linda Moss Mines at lsmines@gps.edu
