Sydella Benton Bankston, 88, of Chattanooga, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017 in a local health care facility. 

She was a faithful member of New Emmanuel Baptist Church for over 60 years where she served on the Usher Ministry and attended Sunday School until her health failed.  She retired from Rivoli Mill after 30 years of service and was an Avon representative.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Queenie Bell Benton; one brother, Joe Eddie Benton; two sisters, Mattie Ruth Chapman and Olivia Burton; three nephews, Phillip Benton, Timothy Benton, and Gerald Benton, Sr. 

Survivors include two devoted brothers, Bobby (Jo Ann) Benton and Melvin (Gwen) Benton; one devoted sister, Beatrice (Walter) Barker of Columbus, GA; devoted aunt, Mary Alice Baker of Buffalo, NY; two sisters-in-law, Annie Lee Borkman and Joyce A. Fears, both of Chattanooga; a host of devoted nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. 

Visitation is on Friday, Jan. 27, at noon at New Emmanuel Baptist Church with the funeral to follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Terrance Hannah as the eulogist. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.
