Chattanooga firefighters responded to a house fire at 2006 Laura Street around 4 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

Battalion Chief Don Bowman said the firefighters located the fire in a bedroom and the attic. The firefighters attacked the fire quickly with hand-held hoselines, limiting the damage to the bedroom and attic.

The loss was estimated at roughly $10,000.
No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire will be ruled accidental.

Chief Bowman said a portable space heater had been placed too close to a wall. When the wall got hot enough, it burst into flames.

Chattanooga Police and Hamilton County EMS also provided assistance on the scene.
