Tentative Identification Made In Case Of Burned Body Found In Whitfield County

  • Tuesday, January 17, 2017

Investigators with the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the discovery of a partially-burned body found on Jan. 10, on Ellis Road.

During the course of the investigation a tentative identification of the body has been made. A missing person’s report was filed on an individual in another state shortly after the body was discovered.

Investigators feel the missing person and the discovered body are one and the same due to circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the individual and some identifying body similarities.

Investigators are working with law enforcement from the jurisdiction where the person was reported missing. DNA has been collected and sent to the GBI Crime Lab to compare with the homicide victim.

It may take several weeks before the lab can confirm if it is the missing person. Investigators are not releasing additional information at this time.
