Earl Spear, 87, of Hixson, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at home.

Mr. Spear farmed in Pompano Beach for over 30 years, then came to Chattanooga in 1981, and developed Montlake Golf and Country Club Estates with the help of his brother, Fred Spear. Terry Kilgore surveyor was also a big help. Mr. Spear was a veteran and served in the U.S. Air Force and Reserves. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dempsey Claude and Telitha Pearl Spear; sister, Voncile Patchett; brothers, Arthur Spear, Eugene Spear, Burton Spear, Clarence Spear, Gordon Spear, Neal Spear, and Fred Spear. 

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rose Spear; son, Michael Spear of Graysville; and daughter, Kathleen (Spear), and husband, James Greco of Sale Creek; six grandchildren, Patrick Spear, Heather (Spear) Mitts, Kara (Spear) Posyton, James Greco III, Toni Greco, and Vincent Greco; eleven great-grandchildren, Skye Anne Masters, Izabel Hall, Orion Hall, Mia Posyton, Amelia Posyton, Dominic Greco, Callum Greco, Dustin Matthews, Vincent Greco, Marissa Greco, and Leo Greco. 

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Reverend Carl Hunsucker officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the funeral home.
