Dr. Luther Franklin Young died on December 16, 2016.

He succumbed to natural causes after bravely enduring the last several years with increasing ailments. Dr. Young was born Jan. 27, 1930 to Luther V. Young and Willie L. Wrinkle Young in rural Hamilton County.

After graduation from Central High School in Harrison, TN, he joined the Marines and was sent to Korea as a Navy Medic. He returned home after service, attended Pre-Med at UT Chattanooga, receiving his MD from UT Memphis in 1958.  He went on to practice family medicine in Kentucky, Tennessee and California. He eventually chose radiology as his preference and mammography as his specialty, practicing as head of radiology in two South Carolina hospitals. In retirement years, he resided in Rancho Murieta, Ca. His expertise still allowed him to continue practicing Locum Tenens Radiology at the distinguished Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Fl. Throughout his 50-year career he healed and saved many lives, especially the many young women who might have otherwise succumbed to cancer.

Dr. Young had a true passion for the Bible, Christianity, music and researching mysteries of life. His religious and medical studies continued right up until his passing. He left an impression on everyone he met and was well respected as a gentleman and true American.  Luther Young was a brilliant student, a committed Christian and loving provider and husband, noting he could not have made the journey without his soul mate, Margaret.

He was predeceased by his parents, and later by his brother, Calvin P. Young.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Bailey Young of Rancho Murieta, California; sons, Craig of Folsom, California and  Mark of Rancho Murieta, CA; daughter, Stacy Shevchuck, and husband, Bob (who is like our own), of Ocean City, Maryland. He also leaves behind his beloved sister, Barbara Young Uren, Dan and Janice Coleman, Bonnie Colquin all of Ooltewah, TN, together with great nieces and nephews, especially their precious Jackson who loved his great uncles songs sung to him over the phone. Luther will be interred at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga at a later date, joining his father, a World War I veteran.
