Superintendent Dr. Judy Gilreath and Karey Williams, assistant superintendent of Teaching and Learning, accepted 5 CPR Anytime: CPR in Schools Hands-Only Training Kits from the American Heart Association in Dalton, Ga.
Through an anonymous donor, the American Heart Association has been able to provide 160 Hands-Only CPR kits to Whitfield County Schools for the past 5 years.
"The CPR in Schools Training Kit enables students to learn the lifesaving skills of CPR in just one class period. Additionally, the kit teaches AED (Automated External Defibrillator) use and choking relief. The easy-to-use kit is designed specifically for the needs of schools. One kit can train hundreds of people," officials said. "Whitfield County daycare centers, kindergarten teachers, middle schools and bus drivers have been recipients of the CPR kits in past years. About 92,000 people are saved each year in the United States by CPR. Effective bystander CPR, provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest, can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival."
“As a result of the donation of the CPR in Schools Training Kits, Whitfield County Schools will be better able to train all students and staff in hands-only CPR,” said Dr. Judy Gilreath. “We hope these skills will empower them to react in emergency situations and avoid the preventable death or injury to those within our community.”
