Friends of Bill Bennett came together Tuesday at the Bill Hullander Farm in Apison to express their appreciation to Bill Bennett on his retirement for his 36 years of dedicated service to his community as Hamilton County commissioner and then as Hamilton County assessor of property.

Since Aug. 31 will be his last day in office before retirement he was presented a flag to be hoisted at 5:30 a.m. and then taken down and given to him at the close of the office day.

Many friends and elected officials were there to honor him, and since Wednesday he will be "riding off into the sunset" the theme of the celebration was "A Cowboy Cookout".

"Thank you, Bill Bennett, for all your years of service and dedication to Hamilton County," said Bobby Wood.
