Shaffer, Charles Freeman (Whitwell)

Charles Freeman Shaffer, 54, of Whitwell, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2016 in a Chattanooga hospital. 

He was a native of Birmingham, AL, and been a resident of Marion County for 20 years; where he was actively involved in the Healthcare community. He was a preceptor of Nurse Students. He imparted his love and care not only to the patients he treated but also to the nurse practitioner students he precepted. 

He was an Advanced Nurse Practitioner at Valley Pediatrics. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. He was a member of the First Blazer Band, Kappa Kappa Psi, and Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the last graduating class at St. Vincent’s in Birmingham. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Shaffer, Jr.; and grandparents, Freeman and Frances B. Brown and Charles and Mary Alice Shaffer. 

Charles is survived by his wife, Sandra Shaffer; mother, Mary Evelyn Shaffer; son, Jacob Long; daughters, Ashley Gilbert and Lexie Parker; brother, James K. (Norval) Shaffer; sisters, Allison AnnMarie (Kenny) Barnett and Catherine Suzanne (Bruce) Haden; and a grandchild, Berkley Smallwood. 

A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel, Friday, Aug. 26 at 3 p.m. CDT. 

The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. CDT, Thursday, Aug. 25. 

Interment will be held at a later date.

Tate Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
