Andy Lawson, of Marion County, was awarded TWRA Region III Technician of the Year. Recipients of this award excel in the multifaceted position which entails a vast amount of job duties, flexibility and performance within the field.

Mr. Lawson, a native of Marion County grew up just two tenths of a mile from Prentice Cooper Wildlife Management Area (WMA). A jack of all trades, Mr. Lawson’s skillset on the WMA includes farming practices, servicing equipment, building and firing range maintenance and public relations.

Mr. Lawson has saved the WMA countless dollars by rewiring an aged shop building, repairing a heat pump and tackling mechanical issues with equipment. “Lawson is an asset to this agency. He is just as comfortable providing tips on squirrel hunting as he is for rock climbing and hiking,” said Clint Smith, the Prentice Cooper WMA manager.

Mr. Lawson’s work extends far beyond the WMA and includes wood duck and goose banding, check station data collection and information and education events. Mr. Lawson’s work ethic and attitude are extremely positive and welcomed by the various WMA visitors. Because of its proximity to Chattanooga, the wide-ranging uses of the WMA and high number of visitors keep Mr. Lawson busy. Still, an avid hunter, creek fisherman and barrel racer, you’re likely to find Mr. Lawson on a horse, in the woods or floating the Sequatchie River trying to catch a fish in his spare time.
