East Ridge will induct nine people into its Hall of Fame at halftime of the Central-East Ridge football game on Sept. 9.
The 2016 inductees:
1. DAVID COPELAND - 1964-1967. Played football and track for three years. Captain of both sports. Earned a football scholarship to the University of Tennessee.
2. CARLENE ELLIOTT RYON - 1964-1967. Played basketball and volleyball three years. Most Outstanding Athlete.
3. STEVE MOORE - 1964-1967. Participated in football, basketball, and baseball for three years. Football scholarship to Memphis State. Earned seven varsity letters at East Ridge.
4. DOUG ROSSER - Contributor to East Ridge athletics from 1968 to present. These contributions include coaching and teaching, building athletic equipment, operating chains at football games, and an ardent fan of ERHS athletics.
5. EARL SHANKS - 1958-1962. First football coach at East Ridge and football field is named in his honor. 1962 school annual named in his honor.
6. CINDY STRAUSSBERGER HOWARD - 1967-1970. Played volleyball and basketball for three years. She has the distinction of scoring the winning basket in East Ridge-Ooltewah basketball game that went 16 overtimes. That game stands as a national record for the longest game in high school history.
7. GLENN TURNER - 1962-1965. Played basketball and baseball for three years. Freshman basketball at the University of Georgia. All-state honorable mention in basketball.
8. JIM WHITE - 1962-1965. Played football and baseball for three years. Football scholarship to UT-Martin. He was all-state in football.
9. DANNY WILLIAMS - 1966-1969. Played basketball and track and field for three years. He holds the high jump school record at East Ridge at 6-feet-6-inches. Received track scholarship to University of Georgia. Participated for four years at Georgia.
