The Southern League has announced that Chattanooga Lookouts’ pitcher Stephen Gonsalves has been named its Pitcher of the Week for the week of 8/15-21.
The Lookouts’ lefty only made one start this week, but dazzled in his lone opportunity. The Twins number four prospect faced off against the Montgomery Biscuits and did not surrender a hit in six innings. Gonsalves also struck out nine batters on his way to his sixth win of the year.
Wednesday’s start was just another notch on the belt for Gonsalves who has had a dominant month of August. In three starts this month, he has not allowed a run in 21 innings and has struck out 25 batters.
The highlight of Gonsalves’ month came on the road against Birmingham when he threw a complete game shutout.
On the year, the southpaw is now 6-1 with a miniscule 1.81 ERA in 10 starts. Since his Double-A debut on June 25 Gonsalves has struck out 72 batters, which is tied for the fourth most in all of Minor League Baseball in that span.
Gonsalves aims to continue his piping hot start to his Double-A career tonight when he faces the Jacksonville Suns at 7:05 eastern time.
After this five game road trip the Lookouts return home on Saturday, August 27 at 7:15 p.m.
Saturday’s contest is Fan Appreciation Night and features Post Game Fireworks.
