Bill Bennett, The Man And Assessor - And Response

  • Monday, August 15, 2016

As a lot of you know Bill Bennett, Hamilton County assessor of property, is retiring effective Aug. 31. He has been a truly great assessor for the past 22 years. I try not to overuse the word great but this adjective certainly applies to him.

Before becoming assessor he served tirelessly for 14 years as a county commissioner and was elected chairman of the commission three times. I had the privilege and honor to work directly for him for 19 years and I got to know and appreciate this very fine Christian man. He is a hardworking professional man that is highly intelligent, honest, sincere and extremely kind and caring. I have never been around anyone that enjoyed helping people as much as Mr. B does.

He has always put the duties of the office as his number one job priority and the good of the taxpayers next, followed by the employees of the county. Anyone who knows him well has the greatest respect for him as a dedicated public servant and a loving family man. In his personal life he puts God first, family next, followed by public service. To only say that he will be missed by government and the people is a gross understatement. They don't make them like this man anymore, he is one of a kind.

The people of this county have been truly blessed to have had Bill Bennett served them for the last 36 years. Fortunately, those of us who know you realize that you will never completely quit working and that is good news for Hamilton County. We are glad that you will continue to serve on the Tennessee State Board of Equalization. Governor Haslam knew what he was doing when he appointed you to that board.

So good luck to you Mr. B on your future semi retirement, you will always be one of the best in whatever you choose to do.

Here's to Mr. Bennett.  He will truly be missed by all of us in our Assessor of Property Office.

I am personally thankful to him, for allowing me the opportunity for choosing me as his commercial appraiser these past two years.

Mr. Bennett is truly a man of great Christian faith, which has shown, strength, leadership, stewardship, integrity, but most of all his compassion to all of the Hamilton County taxpayers and his office staff.

I will miss the stories he has told me and I have to say I learned a lot about him in the little time with him in office.  I have the utmost respect and wish you well, Mr. Bennett, on your semi retirement, and please stop by and check in on us once in a while. Thank you, sir, for all that you have done for me and others.

May our Lord Christ Jesus be with you and your family.
