CHI Memorial Asks To Be Removed As Pokémon Go Location

  • Thursday, July 21, 2016

Leaders at CHI Memorial are warning associates, guests, and the public not to use any of the health care system’s facilities to play Pokémon Go.

“Patient safety and privacy are our top priorities,” said Rhonda Poulson, senior vice president and chief nursing officer. “This game can cause unwanted distraction to those providing and receiving medical care in our hospitals and medical facilities. To ensure we are providing the top level care our patients expect and deserve, and to reduce the risk of exposure to illness and infection due to the possibility of game players entering sterile areas, we’re asking to be removed as a game location and that our associates and guests turn the application off while on our campuses."

Pokémon Go launched two weeks ago and became an instant craze around the world.  Multiple sites from cemeteries and national monuments to museums and hospitals have asked to be removed as Pokémon Go locations.

"Until the CHI Memorial facilities are removed from the app, we respectfully ask you not play the game on our campuses," officials said.
