Sydney Andrews
Sydney June Andrews, 89, died on July 20 at her home in East Ridge, a home where she lived for the past 63 years.
Born on October 12, 1926, Sydney grew up in St. Elmo, graduated from City High with the Class of ’44, and worked many years at Porter Warner Industries. Sydney enjoyed 50 years of marriage to the late Billy Gene Andrews.
She was also preceded in death by her mother, Pearl Slaughter Parham, her father, Herbert Glenn Parham, and her sister Jaqueline Parham Perry. Sydney was known for being a sweet little lady and a faithful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family very much.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Andrews Pleva and son-in-law Joe, and Polly Andrews Henry and son-in-law Kenny, and five grandchildren, Millie Henry Sanders and Adam, Jeff Henry and Wendy, Leigh Pleva Riley and Kevin, Nancy Henry Eriksen and Ryan, and Virginia Henry. Ten great-grandchildren know her as “Great Moo” and were her pride and joy: Beatrice, Connie, Vera, and Joanna Sanders; Judah, Raylynn, and Sydney June Henry; Lillian Riley; and Mary and Duke Andrew Eriksen.
A celebration of Sydney’s life will be held at Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel on Friday, July 22, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday, July 21, from 6-8 p.m. and on Friday, July 22, an hour before the service.
Sydney’s family would like to thank the following people for their support in time of illness: the Sweet Street neighbors, the staff at Amedisys Hospice, especially Nurse Austine and Chaplain Marilyn, Dr. Derek Holland and staff, and loving care givers Ann Adcock, Hannah Afman, Autumn Clark, and Jennifer Ottley.
