Old Town Productions Begins Documentary On Mom And Pop Restaurants

  • Wednesday, July 20, 2016
Old Town Productions has begun its fourth documentary. The documentary will look at the history of the old locally owned mom and pop restaurants before the days of the chain restaurants. The target date for completion of the film is mid September of this year.

Dustin Coleman, writer and narrator, said, “We will look back at the days when all of our restaurants and eateries were locally owned and operated. Every small town had those places that everyone remembers.  If you grew up here, I am sure you will remember places like the Grand Lunch, the Chow Now, Sugar N Spice, Lon’s Sandwich Shop, the drug store lunch counters, and ice cream at Dooley’s.” Several people have already been interviewed and the search for pictures, menus and advertisements are underway.

Debbie Moore, the historical advisor for the project added, “It is important that we try to save this history for future generations and to bring back some fond memories to all of us.
When starting research, we were surprised to find how little information such as pictures were available. We need the public’s help to provide photos and any other items from the old restaurants.”

John Cook has started writing the original music for the film and Ron Moore will serve as the director of the project.

Old Town Productions released “Going Home: The History of Caney Creek Village” to preserve the history of a small community built to support the building and operating the flume in 1918.  In 2014, “It’s A Dirt Track Life” explored the early days of dirt track racing, and recently “It’s Home: Memories of the Ducktown Basin” captured memories of some local people who grew up in Ducktown, Copperhill and other communities around the copper mines.
