The Tennessee Valley Authority and Discover Life in America are inviting interested individuals to help inventory the biological diversity found on TVA’s public lands.
TVA and DLIA will survey two areas in Tennessee near Oak Ridge and Chattanooga over the coming two months:
- Saturday, June 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Melton Hill Dam Recreation Area - 1155 Woodlawn Road near Oak Ridge, Tn.
- Saturday, July 16, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CDT
Little Cedar Mountain Trail - Interstate 24 in Jasper, Tn.
These “BioBlitzes” are open to the public and will highlight field collection, specimen identification and education sessions on birds, butterflies and plants. The events will help agencies better manage natural areas while raising awareness of the biodiversity that exists in our region.
BioBlitzes are family-friendly opportunities for the public to have hands-on experiences and interactions with scientists, wildlife and the community-at-large. Anyone interested in wildlife, biology, citizen science, biodiversity and getting outside are encouraged to participate.
