Mary Sue Finley Wyse, 86, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, died on Friday, June 24, 2016.

Mary Sue was born January 28, 1930 to parents Robert and Belle Finley in Laurens, SC.  She was the wife of Lane Wyse (d 2015) and a beloved teacher for the Chattanooga Public Schools and Columbia, SC Public Schools where she taught first and second grade children.   She graduated Erskine College with a bachelor’s degree in Education and was very active in the support of the college.

Mary Sue was known for her love of children.  In addition to teaching elementary school for many years, she was also active in Trinity Lutheran Church, as a gifted and devoted Sunday School Teacher for young children.

Mary Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Benjamin D Wyse Jr (Lane) whom she met at Erskine College, her parents Robert and Belle Finley, and her sister Robbie Lee Finley Denner.

Mary Sue is survived by her two sons, Benjamin D (Jamie) Wyse III (Debra) and Robert Michael Wyse (Jackie); two grandsons, Justin Wyse (Angie) and Ryan Wyse; two great-grandchildren, Logan and Layla.

Mary Sue was actively involved as a member of the Prudhomme Fort Colonial Dames XVIIc, Member of the National Society United States Daughters of 1812, and the Moccasin Bend Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution – where she served many years as its Registrar.

Mary Sue loved watching birds and always had fun stories about her Bluebirds or Downy Woodpeckers in the backyard.  She loved wildflowers and caring for her garden.  She was very artistic and creative, an avid sewer and knitter.   She spent hours researching family genealogy and used this passion to help others in her role as the Registrar with the D.A.R.

Mary Sue was also an active supporter of scouting.  She was a den mother for Cub Scouts when her boys were young as well as active in helping Mike and Jamie though Boy Scouts.

Mary Sue was probably best known for her talents in the kitchen.  She was an avid baker and candy maker. Family and friends always commented on her fried chicken, pineapple upside down cake, and banana pudding.
