Rassekh, Fakhrozaman

  • Monday, June 27, 2016

Fakhrozaman Rassekh died on Saturday, June 25, 2016, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born in Tehran, Iran on November 9, 1920, Fakhri, as her friends and family called her, attended one of the best girls’ schools in Iran, the Tarbiyat School.  She grew up learning many valuable skills for her time, namely sewing and detailed embroidery, soon becoming a very talented seamstress and instructor. While in Iran, she was engaged in community service and development with a special focus on women.  Upon her marriage to the love of her life, Dr. Ata Rassekh, she accompanied him to Switzerland during his years of academic study.

When the Iranian Revolution forced her family to leave their home all their material possessions, she supported her husband and two daughters unequivocally and without a trace of self-pity or resentment. Hand in hand with her husband she helped rebuild a new and secure life in America for her family while working very hard as a seamstress at the Pickets store in Chattanooga.

Fakhri was known for her sacrificial work and commitment to her family and service to her community.  She was gentle, loving, kind and aimed to treat all with respect and dignity.  She never sought recognition or thanks for her service. She accepted the many challenges that life put in her way, and quietly, patiently and with utmost grace made the very best of what came her way.

She is survived by her daughters, Maryam Stewart and Leila Milani, their husbands, Mickey Stewart and Dr. Kavian Milani, and her six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 30, from 3-4 p.m.

Graveside services will be 4 p.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens followed by funeral services at the Baha’i Church on Hamil Road.

Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
