About Julie Bauer:

Julie Bauer is an artist and an educator. She was born in Munich, Germany, and grew up in an art collecting family. Early she started sculpture and painting, which she is doing for all her life.

After moving to Shanghai in 2010, she focused on experimental sides of her art, developing more of her own techniques. They include objet trouvée, nature materials and painting without brush as inspired by Australian aborigines.

Soon this approach caught attention in the local art scene. Chinese painters as well as fashion designers both took workshops with Ms. Bauer to learn from her and to get inspiration.

Exhibitions and workshops took place in Xincafe Gallery, the K11 shopping mall art space, the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, and many times in the Sofitel Sheshan Oriental Hotel.

Ms. Bauere also mentored “sprouting”, a non profit organization of volunteers who go out to China’s rural areas to start arts education from zero, building on her sustainable and natural materials oriented approach.

Now Ms. Bauer works and lives in the Chattanooga area. She will offer her paintings, workshops, and is open to requests for commissions.
