Payne Charged In 2014 Wreck On Amnicola Highway In Which James Hewitt Was Killed

Gilbert William Payne, 34, has been indicted for vehicular homicide in the traffic death of James Hewitt, 44.

Mr. Hewitt was a rear-seat passenger in a vehicle driven by Payne on Amnicola Highway in early August 2014.

Payne is also facing charges of vehicular assault, speeding, failure to maintain lane and DUI.

Also injured in the wreck were Payne and front-seat passenger, Brandi Wright, 41.

The wreck happened at 1:49 a.m.

and involved a Honda Accord that left the roadway and struck a telephone pole. 

The location is near Wilcox Boulevard.
