  • Thursday, June 23, 2016

Chattanooga area doctors Justin Calvert of Signal Mountain, Elizabeth Ferluga of Hixson, and Chetan Shah of Hixson are among a group of 12 emerging physician leaders from around the state who met in Monteagle June 10-12 to learn about collaboration, influence, conflict management, and negotiation through a leadership training program offered by the Tennessee Medical Association.

Program participants will meet again next month in Nashville to learn about advocacy as well as media and communications.

Presenters for the kickoff weekend courses included Consultant Martha Kelley; Susan Williams,
professor emerita of management at Belmont University; and Larry Bridgesmith, JD, Program on Law and Innovation coordinator and adjunct professor at the Vanderbilt School of Law.

This is the second class of the Leadership Immersion Program, part of the John Ingram Institute for
Physician Leadership.

Funding for the program is provided by The Physicians Foundation through the Tennessee Medical
Education Fund.

TMA has delivered leadership training to member physicians for several years and recently expanded and rebranded under the John Ingram Institute for Physician Leadership. The Institute features the Leadership Immersion Program as well as the Physician Leadership Lab, a multi-month course that focuses on improving healthcare quality and efficiency in a team-based delivery setting, according to officials.

The programs are open exclusively to TMA members.

Participants in the Summer 2016 Leadership Immersion Program include:
