The Chattanooga Technology Council (ChaTECH) awarded $12k in college scholarships at the ChaTECH Education Symposium held at the Volkswagen Chattanooga Academy.
The event, sponsored by Volkswagen Chattanooga, InfoSystems, and Zycron also featured a keynote speech by David Steele, VP of Policy and Education for the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce. His speech, titled “The Economics of Excellence”, encouraged the scholarship recipients to continue pursuing excellence in their educational endeavors as a means to further financial success over the course of their active work life.
Receiving scholarships were; Krista Burnette, UT-Chattanooga; Rebekah Coates, Lee University; Rume Ekong, Lee University; Nick Gilbert, Covenant College; Abigail Hynson, Covenant College; Ibukunoluwa Sobayo, Lee University; Kenta Ito, Southern Adventist University; Kathryn Rouse, UT-Chattanooga; Trenton Shell, Covenant College; Derek Snyder, UT-Chattanooga; Jordan Stevens, Lee University; and Obed Tandadjaja, Covenant College.
"ChaTECH Scholars began in 2014 and has grown significantly year over year due to expansive growth across ChaTECH membership and sponsorship. ChaTECH Scholars is a key component of ChaTECH’s mission to invest in the region’s technology workforce development initiatives focused on strengthening the talent pipeline," officials said.
ChaTECH Scholars are outstanding students who meet the criterion established by the Scholarship Committee. To qualify, students must be a college junior or senior, pursue a STEM degree, maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher, and submit an essay on what having a technology career means to them.
