A joint investigation by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and several other law enforcement agencies has resulted in the early morning arrest of a Spencer, Tn., man charged with criminal homicide.

At the request of 31st District Attorney General Lisa Zavogiannis, TBI Special Agents joined investigators with the District Attorney’s office and the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department in investigating the May 5 stabbing death of 32-year-old Charles Leo Caldwell.

When deputies and EMS personnel responded to 80 Sleepy Hollow Road in Spencer, they found the victim suffering from a stab wound. He was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. During the course of the investigation, agents developed information that led to Bayless Eugene Sullivan, 39, as the individual responsible for Charles Caldwell’s death.

Early Friday morning, with the assistance of investigators with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department and the District Attorney’s office, Sullivan was taken into custody in a wooded area close to 956 Hill Road in Spencer.

He was booked into the Van Buren County Jail. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.
