Chattanooga Mocs center fielder Sam Taylor was named to the 2016 Academic All-District III Team on Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Recipients are required to have a 3.3 grade point average and above and have played in at least half of the season's games. Taylor surpassed the requirements with a 3.76 GPA as a Middle Grades Education major and has started in nearly every game this year.
She has been named Academic All-Son twice and was a Commissioner's Medal honoree on three occasions.
Taylor has also made it on the Dean's List and Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester.
In the past two seasons, she has been the main leadoff hitter. This year, Taylor boasts a team-best .337 batting average and 55 hits, while collecting 12 doubles and knocking in 22. Over her career, she's amassed 201 hits and 72 RBI.
Taylor, along with her fellow seniors Criket Blanco, Anyssa Robles, Amanda Ross and Alyssa Taylor, is being honored at Saturday's game against ETSU at 6:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) for Senior Night in Frost Stadium. The Mocs finish the series with the Bucs and wrap up regular season play with a doubleheader Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
