Bruce Burton Wilson, 59, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, died unexpectedly on Sunday, May 29, 2016.

A native of Canton, N.C., he became a Christian at an early age in vacation bible school at North Canton Baptist Church. He graduated from Pisgah High School in 1975 and graduated from NC State earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of the Farm House Fraternity.  While at NC State, he married Donna Phillips of Clyde, N.C.

After moving to Chattanooga in 1980, he worked as a licensed professional engineer for the Tennessee Valley Authority and retired after 28 years of service. During his career, he worked at Sequoyah, Bellefonte, and Watts Bar Nuclear Power Plants. He also became a member of the Hixson First Baptist Church.

Bruce was an Eagle Scout and a lifelong lover of the outdoors.  He enjoyed spending time in the mountains hiking and camping.  He was a competitive shooter and a charter member of the Chattanooga Rifle Club where he served as the Highpower Match director.  He was also an avid hunter and loved the time he spent at his Triple Eagle Farm in Georgia.

More than anything, he loved spending time with his family.  He adored his three grandchildren.  Whether it was riding the carousel, carrying them in a backpack on a hike, walking through the aquarium, or catching them on the slide at the park, Bruce loved every minute as their Papaw.

Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Ray Wilson, and mother, June Ivester Wilson.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Phillips Wilson; sons, Joshua (Carla) Wilson and Mark (Caroline) Wilson; and grandchildren, Mary Allen Wilson, Aaron Wilson, and Laurel Wilson.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 31, from 4-8 p.m. at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clyde First Baptist Church Building and Grounds Committee, 227 Main Street, Clyde, NC 28721 or North Canton Baptist Church, 735 North Canton Road, Canton, NC 28716.

Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
