Georgia Northwestern Presents Home Ownership Lunch And Learn Courses During June

  • Thursday, May 26, 2016

Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) will present a “Lunch and Learn” home ownership course at each GNTC campus throughout the month of June to inform attendees about the benefits available when purchasing a home.

The course “Homeownership 101” will take place during lunchtime at 11:30 a.m. and is free and open to the public.

Lunch will not be provided and individuals will have the option of bringing their own lunch.

Evette M. Jones, area director with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Area 1 (Cartersville/Newman), will lead the course. As the area director, Jones supervises a team that administers loan or grant funding through the programs offered by USDA Rural Development including community, water and environmental, business, and housing programs.

“GNTC is excited to partner with the USDA Rural Development Office in increasing awareness of available programs to help in the realization of owning one’s home,” said April Welch, campus manager of the Polk County Campus at GNTC. “Everyone is invited to attend this informative session to learn about financing, down payments, closing fees, and more.”

The course will cover a variety of homeownership topics including 100 percent financing, seller credits that may help pay for closing fees, and how closing fees may be financed with some transactions.

Listed is the schedule for “Homeownership 101” at each GNTC campus showing (from left to right) the date, campus, and room number:

  • June 9, Polk County Campus, Auditorium

  • June 14, Floyd County Campus, Building H, Room 101-A

  • June 29, Gordon County Campus, Building 400, Room 4122-A

The course will begin at 11:30 a.m. at each campus and Jones will be available for questions and answers after her presentation.

Jones has received several honors on the state and local levels including 2001 Young Careerist for the City of Valdosta by the Valdosta Business and Professional Women, the 2004 Road Map to Success – Woman of Distinction Award from Valdosta Technical College, and was recognized three consecutive years as a Woman of the Year nominee by the Valdosta Junior Woman’s Club.
