Top Companies Selected At Baker Donelson's 4th Annual Southeastern Emerging Companies Capital Connections

  • Tuesday, May 24, 2016

A group of leading investors selected two companies, Torch and Race Engineering, Inc., as the top presenters during Baker Donelson's Southeastern Emerging Companies Capital Connections 2016.

Torch and Race Engineering were among 15 companies who were able to pitch their ideas to a group of more than 20 investors from across the region during the event, which was held in the Baker Donelson Cybersecurity Accelerator in the firm's Atlanta office. Selected by the investors as the top two presenting companies, Torch and Race Engineering were awarded the opportunity to work with Baker Donelson on their capital raise on a discounted fixed fee engagement.

Torch, based in Chattanooga, offers a Wi-Fi router that provides parents with a centralized management tool to ensure safety, balance and visibility while their children explore online. Race Engineering, based in Atlanta, Georgia, develops cyber-security software for the automotive market to detect and mitigate vehicle data hacks, malware and virus uploads.

Nearly 60 emerging companies from across the Southeast applied for the opportunity to take part in the fourth annual Southeastern Emerging Companies Capital Connections, which focuses on bringing together successful entrepreneurs and capital investors from across the Southeast. From those applicants, 15 companies were selected by an investor committee to attend and participate in the event.

During the event, the top seven companies were also selected to have one-on-one meetings with investors attending the event: DecisionLink Corporation; FIX: Fitness Interactive eXperience; Race Engineering; Text Request; Torch; Trustfuel; and The Un-Brokerage, Inc.

Justin Daniels, who leads the Southeastern Emerging Companies Capital Connections event, said, "We're proud to have once again had an outstanding group of companies participate in this event, and we congratulate Torch and Race Engineering on their selection as the top presenting companies. We look forward to working with them and adding their future success to the more than $3 million in funding companies have received in the past three years as a result of our Capital Connections event. This event, along with our Cybersecurity Accelerator and our upcoming second annual cybersecurity conference, is part of our Emerging Companies Team's commitment to being the go-to resource for entrepreneurs and startups in the Southeast."
