Miracle League of Chattanooga will have a groundbreaking at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Warner Park.
Miracle League Baseball began in 1998 in Conyers, Ga., when the Rockdale Youth Baseball League invited children of all abilities to join them in the game of baseball. That first year, 140 players came out to play, and that was just the beginning.
Today, there are more than 200,000 children and adults participating in 240+ Miracle League organizations in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada, with Chattanooga being the latest to join the ever-growing team.
Chattanooga’s Miracle Field will feature cushioned, rubberized field surfaces, making it a bit easier for special needs players to get from base to base. In true Chattanooga fashion, the community has literally ‘stepped up to the base’ to support the effort. The Downtown Chattanooga Rotary Club and BlueCross-BlueShield of Tennessee donated $250,000 each to the field. Berkshire Hathaway Realty Center is the exclusive realty company with naming rights to the Berkshire Hathaway scoreboard.
