A Chattanooga man that prosecutor Chris Poole said has a gang background was sent away to federal prison for 57 months on Monday morning.

Darius Hyatte appeared before Judge Sandy Mattice.

Prosecutor Poole said his brother, Dominic Wright, was shot and killed in 2014.

Hyatte, himself, was shot in the right arm in 2010 when he was hanging around the East Lake Courts.

He was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

A search of his residence turned up a shotgun, 9mm ammunition and drug paraphernalia.

His life of crime started when he was 14 and had to go to a group home because his mother was working several jobs, it was stated.

Hyatte had a number of misdemeanor charges and a felony theft case.

His federal conviction was for being a felon in possession of a weapon.

Hyatte waved goodby to his mother, grandmother and fiancee.
