They dodged as many bullets as possible, but rain was predicted for Saturday and it finally landed on the Red Bank Lionette softball complex.
Meigs County had already advanced to the championship game with a 7-0 win over Central at the White Oak Field while Sale Creek was holding on to a slim 4-3 lead over Red Bank when play was suspended by lighting, thunder and heavy rain in the top of the sixth.
The tournament was ultimately called off a short time later as more rain was predicted for the area along the base of Signal Mountain.
Meigs County improved to 28-3 with its win over Central and it was highlighted by a grand slam from senior Olivia Johnson.
Then in the Red Bank-Sale Creek game, the Lionettes took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third when pitcher Hannah Wood singled to drive in Destiny Painter, who had doubled.
The Lady Panthers knotted things in the fourth before taking a 4-1 lead in the fifth.
The first run scored on a wild pitch while McKenna Morgan's infield single drove in Hannah Hall with the third run. Hannah Hall then ripped a double to deep center to drive in Morgan.
Red Bank had a comeback in the bottom of the fifth when Sami Shrader led off with a triple into the corner in right. She then scored on a two-run homer to dead center by Kendall Farr.
The Lady Panthers were batting in the sixth when play was called, giving the win to Sale Creek since they were leading after the end of the previous inning.
Sale Creek and Red Bank both return to action on Tuesday with Sale Creek going to Central and Red Bank hosting Polk County.
District tournaments then follow later next week.
