New Weekly Music Series Headed To Miller Plaza

  • Monday, April 25, 2016

Noontunes, a new weekly, mid-day music series is making its way to Miller Plaza. Every Wednesday from noon-1 p.m. starting in May through July, local artists will showcase their musical skills in free public performances.

Recorded and aired later on WUTC, this weekly showcase will highlight local talent and offer a platform for a variety of artists to be seen and heard. This River City Company program is made possible through partners at SoundCorps, Chattanooga Convention & Visitors Bureau, Jazzanooga, WUTC and River City Sessions.

“River City Company is excited to continue our work to animate Downtown by launching this lunchtime concert series in Miller Plaza,” said Meagan Shinn, program manager at River City Company. “Noontunes will offer a culturally rich experience during a nontraditional time of the day while also providing a platform and a new type of audience for local performers.”

The 13 week lineup spotlights the variety of local musical talent in the community. From blues artist Rick Rushing to the bluegrass sound of Slim Pickens and the rock rhythms of The Bohannons, Noontunes artists will have an opportunity to play both original music and covers. While not an acoustic setting, each performance will have a host who discusses with the artists their background and song selection providing insight and knowledge not normally gleaned from a standard show.

“Through Noontunes performances, SoundCorps is excited to help local musicians grow their audience,” said Stratton Tingle, executive director of SoundCorps. “Not only will the in-person and on-radio spotlights help artists advance their careers, it will also encourage Chattanoogans to more easily connect with local music providers. We hope that these showcases will be especially appreciated by downtown daily workers who may not be able to attend late-night local music offerings.”

Noontunes performances begin Wednesday, May 4. The entire lineup and artist bios can be found at millerplazachattanooga.com. Noontunes is sponsored by Lamp Post Group and the Fidelity Trust Company.
