Sportsman BBQ Getting New Life

After an eight-year absence in Chattanooga, Sportsman BBQ is returning.

David Johns, who helped his grandfather, Dee Sweeney, open Sportsman BBQ on Signal Mountain Road in 1983, is reopening at 3874 Hixson Pike.

Sportsman BBQ was located on Signal Mountain Road for 24 years. 

Dee Sweeney opened the first Sportsman's in 1949 on Highway 58. He operated it there for about 20 years. He then opened in Brainerd for several years until he sold it.

Then he opened Sweeney's BBQ back on Highway 58 beginning in 1972..
