Baylor Junior Class Participates In Poetry Out Loud

Gershwin Greene finished first in the Baylor junior class' Poetry Out Loud competition on Thursday. Margie Hussey was second and Hailey Miller was third.

Baylor's Gershwin Greene finished first in the junior class' Poetry Out Loud competition on Thursday. Margie Hussey was second and Hailey Miller was third. Margie will represent Baylor at the state competition in Nashville on March 19 as Gershwin will be competing in a swim meet on that date. 

Gershwin recited The Song of the Smoke by W. E. B. Dubois, Margie chose Personal by Tony Hoagland, and Hailey recited Two Guitars by Victor Hernandez Cruz. 

Nine other Baylor juniors participated in the competition including Dean Azzouz (I Am Offering This Poem by Jimmy Santiago Baca), Matthew Boyer (The Hospital Window by James L.

Dickey), Frank Bu (Happiness by Jane Kenyon), Patrick Curran (Caged Bird by Maya Angelou), Sydney Hait (Song of the Shattering Vessels by Peter Cole), Pete Harinsuit (My Brother, the Artist, at Seven by Philip Levine), John Mynatt (Cartoon Physics, Part I by Nick Flynn), Sherry Tang (Solitude by Ella Wheeler Wilcox), and Dexter Webb (Difference by Stephen Vincent Benet).
