The Cougars led the entire game winning 9-4 over the Raiders.
"It was a good start to the season," said head coach Mike Policastro. "We put together some good at bats and scored runs early."
Sophomore shortstop Lee Gibson hit Cleveland State's first home run of the season on a three run bomb over the right field fence in the bottom of the third to give the Cougars a 4-1 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth sophomore right fielder Hagen Wilkey led the charge hitting a solo shot to left field.
Sophmore Drew Korzybski earned the victory pitching seven innings allowing one earned run on six hits with eight strikeouts.
"Drew threw the ball really well," said Policastro.
"He had good command with all of his pitches."
Roane State freshman shortstop Tyler Culpepper hit a three run homer in the top of the ninth, but the Raiders come back fell short.
The Cougars are heading to Roane State tomorrow for a double header in the final two games of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
