Hamilton County Schools Superintendent Rick Smith announced that the Hamilton County Board of Education and Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC) will host the 14th Annual Student SPEAK OUT Conference on Friday, Feb. 12, at The Chattanoogan from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The SSAC is an organization comprised of students representing every high school who meet regularly with the Superintendent to discuss school issues that are important to students. The conference is sponsored by Superintendent Smith. The entire conference will be student led.
Each high school appointed five students to attend the conference. They will engage in the following focus group discussions led by student members of the SSAC:
How does first generation college students access information to help them attain “college knowledge?”
What role does mindfulness play in the 21st century educational setting by helping us better understand how the brain works through self-awareness, self-regulation and compassion in the classroom?
How do we prepare our students for tomorrow’s opportunities by progressing them through a structured learning pathway?
How do you cultivate a positive school climate change through kindness, empathy and compassion (soft skills)?
How can you ruin your life online and the impact this will have on your future employment?
How can you and your school stop bullies from inflecting emotional and physical abuse on fellow students at school and on the internet?
How can you develop leadership qualities and learn to be a leader?
