It’s Slim Pickins At The Camp House For Della Mae

The Camp House has evolved its venue status since relocating from Williams Street to MLK & Lindsay.  The Camp House has a mission and is center for more outreach, messenger for hope, encouragement, dining and entertainment.  It is a mission of various services to more needs in a diverse intercity. Some call it a Lighthouse, a Gathering Place and - on a limited schedule - a Music Venue.

It fills an intercity void to connect people from all walks of life.  It’s a beautiful place with a spiritual feel. I believe it is why young and wise adults meet at The Camp House.  It often has movie nights, singers/songwriters shootouts, many local and regional artist performing on the stage.   Then sometimes public interest meetings are held at scheduled times.  The most important part of the Mission at The Camp House is it’s part of a worship center - being one of three different intercity campuses.

Here is what The Camp House wants you to know …. The Camp House opened in June 2010 in order to foster community involvement and create a high quality coffee and dining culture.

TCH being a multi-purpose space at the crossroads of the MLK, City Center, and UTC neighborhood - right at the heart of Chattanooga, TN. In addition to featuring some of the best espresso in the entire city, craft beer, and a world inspired menu. The Camp House is where, The Mission Chattanooga currently meets on Sundays, but the building is also used for private events. Overall we seek to foster community and cultivate culture in our city.

We serve Counter Culture Coffee, widely regarded as one of the best roasters in the world both in terms of quality and sustainability.  Along with great coffee we have recently increased our food menu, bringing Executive Chef Jose Alfaro onto the team to make The Camp House a place for any time of the day.

We have an assortment of tables and couches inside The Camp House in order to create a perfect place to meet with friends or simply relax and read a book.  With EPB Fiber Optic Internet it's also a great place for designers and entrepreneurs who need a space to work for an afternoon……..

Now we can better understand why Jonathan Susman and Barret Taylor with Gig City Productions (GCP) contacted Matt Busby, GM at The Camp House to schedule a family entertainment event. The combination of talent in the GCP organization has a great track record of pairing up top entertainment with great artists/bands.  Recently, the combination of returning national/international Bluegrass Country band Della Mae to the Chattanooga Live Music stage and a maturing local bluegrass group Slim Pickins Bluegrass made for an awesome night.

Della Mae performed last year at Chattanooga’s Three Sisters Festival in pressing inclement weather.  The five ladies, Celia Woodsmith • Lead Vocals, Guitar; Jenni Lyn Gardner • Mandolin, Vocals, Kimber Ludiker • Fiddle, Courtney Hartman • Lead Guitar, Vocals, Zoe Guigueno • Bass are Nashville based.  They wanted to find a spot in their busy schedule to return to Chattanooga. They are much in demand as their tour events are posted on social media at https://www.facebook.com/heyheydellamae or http://www.dellamae.com

The opening performance of Slim Pickins Bluegrass pulled their members together in 2008.Local to Chattanooga are Justin Hupp - Upright Bass, Deron Stevens – Mandolin, Brad Clark – Guitar, Randy Steele – Banjo, Vocals, Russ Young (John Boulware – alt.)– Fiddle.  The guys make up the five-piece band, which has nailed competitions and opened for some of the leading acts at festivals and venues.

Bob Payne, Talent Lead w/ Friends of the Festival and Entertainment Editor (www.chattanoogan.com), made this observation after enjoying their performance recently .. "...On a brighter note, we had an opportunity to see the band Slim Pickins at T-Bones a few weeks ago, and that was fun. This band plays fun music and they have fun playing. These guys are all pickers, with a mandolin, a fiddle, a banjo, and a guitar. I don’t care if your wife just left you and took your dog, these guys will bring a smile to your face, as their kind of music is fun and contagious."

The band hit the tour circuit in May 2016 flying over the big pond to Europe.  Keep up with them on social media at www.slimpickinsbluegrass.com or www.facebook.com/SlimPickinsBluegrass
