Dorothy Sparks Satterfield, 92, died peacefully on December 5, 2016, at Pruitt Health Care in Fort Oglethorpe.

Born Oct. 25, 1924, to  Ira and Pearl Sparks, she graduated with honors from Central High School in 1942 and from The University of Tennessee in Chattanooga in 1983 with a degree in Economics. She retired from Provident Life and Accident Insurance Company after 31 years, serving on many councils and organizations within the company.

She was a member of East Brainerd Church of Christ. She was actively involved in Insurance Women of Chattanooga and Tennessee, serving as an officer in both organizations.  She enjoyed bowling for the majority of her adult life, competing in several Senior Olympic Games.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Lynn H. Satterfield.

Dorothy was a loving mother to her three children: Lynnda (Bill) Bass Weaver, Ringgold; Hardin (Pam) Satterfield, Ringgold; and Phillip (Donette) Satterfield,  Red Bank; six grandchildren,  Dotti Hartman, Sonny Bass, Bryan Satterfield, Emily Satterfield, Alexandria Satterfield and Jordan Satterfield; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Thursday, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Minister Mike Gurganus officiating. Burial will follow at Chattanooga Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the local Alzheimer’s Association or the  McKamey Animal Center.
