Händel’s Messiah Community Sing-Along Is Dec. 11

  • Sunday, December 4, 2016

The Händel’s “Messiah” Community Sing-Along will be held Sunday, Dec. 11, at 3 p.m., under the direction of Dr. Lonnie McCalister, Lee University’s former dean of music.

The event will take place at the Chattanooga First Seventh-day Adventist Church, 7450 Standifer Gap Road.  This Chattanooga-area all-denominational event is free and is offered as a community service. This is a unique opportunity for audience participation in what has become the musical hallmark of the season. An offering will be taken.

The event includes a chamber orchestra and a children’s choir composed of members of the Chattanooga Girls' Choir. Soloists are Cynthia Johnson, soprano; Andrea Dismukes, contralto; James Frost, tenor; and Tony Deaton, bass. Refreshments will follow the program.

Nearly 500 people attend the Sing-Along each year.  Participants are asked to bring their own score; a limited number of chorus books are available on loan for the event. For more information, call 605-2468.
