Misleading Statistics Will Keep Yankees Away - And Response

Re:  Roy Exum: Among The Worst

I wholeheartedly agree that fixing our schools should be our number one priority.  However, I love these misleading statistics.

The stats will encourage all those smart, rich Yankees to stay home, where the cost of living is significantly higher than it is in out Southern states, and relieve us of their arrogant presence among us.

These misleading statistics are keeping more than just the Yankees away.  I recently retired from 20 years in the U.S. Navy, as I planned for my retirement I fully intended to return to Collegedale area where I grew up.  I thought this would be a great place to raise my two daughters, for them to be near their grandparents and experience the joy of living in such a beautiful place.

I was conducting job searches and even bought a small parcel of land to build my dream house.  But after the horrible events at OHS last year and follow up events of the chaotic school board, I realized that I could not bring my kids into this school system.

I do know there are many outstanding teachers and students in the system, but I was not willing to risk their future in this failing system.  So I have stayed in New England where the cost of living is high, but I know the schools system will provide my kids with every opportunity.

So these stats are keeping more than the Yankees away, they are keeping home grown folks from returning to their beloved land.
