Lil' John Ownbey
The season finale annual "Winter Shootout" capped off the season Saturday at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tenn. and it was Cleveland's Lil' John Ownbey holding off a bevy of racing challengers including a two-time Dirt Track world champion.
Driving Richard Austin's Late Model racecar out of Soddy Daisy, Ownbey dominated the event that drew just over a dozen competitors for the $2,000 grand-prize with the "Austin Trucking, Tindell & Sons Carpet" sponsored ride.
Local standout and multi track champion around East Tennessee, Jason Welshan ran second with Chattanooga's (#DTWCx2) Ronnie Johnson finishing third. Kentucky's Chicky Barton and Johnny Ridings of Walland, Tenn. would round out the Top 5 respectfully. Chattanooga's Booger Brooks took the $500 Hobby winnings over 13 other competitors.
The holiday off-season now takes precedence over racing in the Tennessee area with competitors readying for such season opening specials as the "Hangover 100" and the annual "IceBowl" coming in January.
