Lewis LeBron McWhorter, 71, of Trion, Georgia, passed away Friday, December 9, 2016 at the Floyd Medical Center.
Mr. McWhorter was born in LaFayette, GA on July 17, 1945, son of Lewis Clifford McWhorter and Myrtle Lou Howell McWhorter. He was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church, was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Viet Nam Era, and a member of the American Legion Post 129. Prior to his retirement, he was self employed in the automobile sales industry. He loved spending time with his family, his grandkids, and especially his great-grandchildren.
Mr. McWhorter is survived by his wife, Shirley McWhorter; daughter and son-in-law, Rena (pronounced Renae) and Anthony Richardson; parents, Lewis and Myrtle McWhorter; sister and brother-in-law, LaBrenda and Ray Henson; grandchildren, Sky Richardson and Cody Richardson; great-grandchildren, Zoey Slayton and Brylan Chambers; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. McWhorter will be held Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. John Eldridge and Rev. Ken Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Burgess, Claude Burgess, Ronald Burgess, Ray Henson, Louis Brock and Mike Turner. Honorary Pallbearers will be Julius and Jackie Richardson, Stanley and Trish Brown, Keith Hurley and members of the New Bethel Baptist Church.
Mr. McWhorter will remain at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Saturday, Dec. 10 from 6-8 p.m.
