Why Greg Martin Is The Best Choice For District 3 - And Response (3)

  • Friday, October 28, 2016

I cannot fathom electing Joe Smith for County Commission District 3. The support Joe Smith has received from Councilman Chris Anderson and other leading local Democrats is great cause to distrust his intentions.

Greg Martin is the GOP nominee for District 3, and frankly, he has an outstanding record of elected service in Hamilton County. I would describe Greg Martin as solid in his positions, reliable, and the public always know where he stands from years of service on the school board. There is no hidden agenda or veil of people behind the scenes pulling strings with Mr. Martin.

I have read that Greg Martin’s opposition viewed the GOP caucus as unfair, and that that the process favored Martin in advance. That is the language of people that show up in the 11th hour to announce candidacy and have no record of political service. I am sure the process seems unfair, if you were not participating, as Joe Smith has not.

Greg Martin was selected by the Republican Party for steadfast service and adherence to the principles of public service.

It is really absurd for a person to announce Republican candidacy with virtually no participation in the party with Councilman Chris Anderson and friends in tow.  Now, I understand why the Times Free Press liberal ink supported Greg Martin’s opposition.

Vote Greg Martin in District 3, he has proven elected service.

I hope the voters in District 3 do not have short memories. Greg Martin was appointed by our County Commission to be our District 3 school board member in 2012 when Everett Fairchild had to step down because of health reasons. The vote was 5-4.  It is interesting to note that the District 3 and District 1 commissioner did not vote for Greg Martin. Who wanted Mr. Martin to be representing the District 3 schools?  It wasn’t the voters and it wasn’t the commissioners on the north end of the county who know our schools, our families, and our communities.

Fast Forward to fall of 2016.  The Republican caucus has decided that Greg Martin will be their nominee for District 3 county commissioner. He was not voted that honor by the people of the District 3. Once again, I have to wonder who is attempting to decide the leadership for District Three besides the voters of District 3.

I am so thankful that Joe Smith chose to run as an independent and finally give the voters of District 3 a voice in their own government. Please join me in supporting the only true choice for the voters of District 3.  Vote Joe.

The two commissioners that Jill Carrier references that did not support Greg Martin in the appointment process were both defeated in their most recent elections. In the appointment process of 2012 Greg had the support of Republican and Democrat commissioners, just not those that the people of District 3 recently voted out of office.

Greg Martin has been on the ballot one time in his life time; that was 2014 for school board.  That doesn't sound like much of a career in politics.  The people of District 3 elected Greg with 63 percent of the vote in that election.  In fact, Greg won his election with a larger percentage of the vote than anyone running for school board in 2014.  The facts are the people of Hixson know and trust Greg Martin. I believe he will be an outstanding county commissioner for the people of District 3.

I would like to respond to April Edison's remarks about me and my desire to serve on the County Commission.

First, I do not know Ms. Edison and she certainly does not know me. Someone who would state that I was a man who would deceive anyone clearly does not know me. I respect Ms. Edison's right to voice her opinion and I will faithfully pray for her well-being.

My urgent desire to serve the people of District 3 and Hamilton County does not require a partisan political filter. That's why I am running as a conservative Independent. I will not see every person I represent through the filter of a political party; instead, I will see each person as a creation of God that we are called to help and support.

I hope to be a peacemaker and consensus builder on the Commission in an effort to make common sense decisions in the best interest of the people we serve. As a conservative Independent, I will be in a unique position to accomplish this.

Hopefully, I can meet Ms. Edison soon and share my story with her. In the meantime, I will continue to pray for her.
