Erlanger’s Data Management Platform For Stroke Recognized As A Finalist By Cleveland Clinic During IT Challenge

  • Tuesday, October 25, 2016
The Cleveland Clinic 2016 Medical Innovation Summit recognizes CEREBROS, Erlanger Health System’s partner in data management for stroke, as one of four finalists from more than 90 submissions of cutting-edge solutions to improve health care during this year’s IT Challenge.

As the first Neurovascular Information System designed for neurology and stroke programs, CEREBROS seeks to revolutionize the way patient care is delivered before, during and after a stroke to ultimately save lives while also creating hospital and service line efficiencies that will benefit programs and communities across the country.

"Built by the Corazon team of neuroscience experts in program development, CEREBROS functionality is based on real-world experience.
Early adopters of Corazon’s CEREBROS have experienced a real and measurable impact program-wide – clinically, operationally, and financially – through the system that directs care along a continuum for achieving best-practice," officials said.

For several months, the clinical and administrative teams at Erlanger’s Southeast Regional Stroke Center have been in collaboration with the Corazon team to implement the customized “instance” of CEREBROS for Erlanger. The system is now live for use with all 2,300 annual stroke patients treated at the Stroke Center, from arrival through discharge and follow up.

“There have been incredible developments in stroke care in recent years,” said Dr. Thomas Devlin, MD, PhD, director of Erlanger’s Southeast Regional Stroke Center and Corazon Medical advisor.  “Many clinical trials have demonstrated the need for rapid intervention for optimal patient outcomes.  As a finalist in the Cleveland Clinic Challenge, CEREBROS is an exceptional testament that supports our center’s ability to administer these treatments and will continue to play a major role as stroke care is completely transformed over the next several years."

“Our passion for changing the way stroke care is delivered is embodied in the CEREBROS platform,” said Karen Hartman, president and CEO of Corazon.  “The system ensures a more effective delivery model, provides a robust data management infrastructure and creates efficiencies to save time, costs and, most importantly, patient lives.”

"Cleveland Clinic Innovations hosts the Medical Innovation Summit as a way to bring together stakeholders in healthcare to advance the conversation of medical innovation and a commitment to quality. In this time of reform and restructuring, Cleveland Clinic believes it is essential that innovation remain at the core in the delivery of medical care, and the IT Challenge is a means to accomplish this through new ideas generated by thought leaders in the industry," officials said.
