Don Adams
Don Edward Adams, 73, of Chattanooga, transitioned peacefully on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, surrounded by family and friends.
Don was born on Aug. 17, 1943, in Leighton, AL to the late Georgia L. Bailey and Henry Adams. Don attended Leighton Training School where he played sports and graduated with the class of 1962. Before returning to Chattanooga, he also served in the U.S. Army. Don was a faithful and dedicated Elder of Stephen’s Temple Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He retired from the Humane Society after 30 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Wells Adams; his grandmother, Ella Nawhaw; great aunt, Flora Woods; uncle, Percy Nawhaw; stepfather, Eddie Bailey; brothers, Robert Adams Sr., Napoleon Adams, and John Henry Abernathy.
Mourning his loss, yet rejoicing in the time he spent with them, cherishing his many previous memories, his loving and devoted wife, Leona Adams; stepmother, Rebecca Adams of Leighton, AL, son, Brent (Erika) Adams; stepsons, Kelvin and Corey Griffin; granddaughters, Brenshayla and Brea’sia Adams; three step-grandsons, and one step-great-grandson, all of Chattanooga; brothers, Leon (Jacquelene) Douglass of Birmingham, AL, and John (Xenia) Douglas of Auburn, AL; sisters, Helen (Willie) Rick and Brenda Jones all of Leighton, AL, Lynn (Kenneth) Crooks of Huntsville, AL, Ann (Dale) Avila of Chattanooga, and Linda (Roosevelt) Broome of Allen TX; devoted nephew, Robert Adams, Jr., sister-in-law; Frances Adams, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He will lie in state on Saturday, Oct. 22, after 12:30 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be on Sunday, Oct. 23, at 1 p.m. at Stephen’s Temple C.P. Church with Pastor Earnest Jefferson officiating.
Interment will be on Monday, Oct. 24, at 11:30 a.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
