“It was experience against grit tonight and experience won out in the end,” said Chattanooga Arts and Sciences coach David Poss.

Coach Poss was referring to Boyd Buchanan’s come-from-behind 2-1 win for the Region 3 A-AA Thursday against his visiting Patriots.

“We have lots of juniors and next year we should be where they (Boyd Buchanan) are (as region champs).”

But the season for both teams is not completed as Saturdays round of 16 matches shows Boyd Buc hosting Notre Dame at 7 p.m. and CSAS traveling to 2015 state runner-up Chattanooga Christian with the winners advancing to the state quarterfinals next week in Murfreesboro.

CSAS led 1-0 at halftime on a Cydnee Stafford goal in the 29th minute and just as the visitors were in control of the match late Boyd Buc’s district player of the year Emma Rogers scored twice in a two minute span (69th and 71st) for the victory.

“We were able to finally get the ball over the top late and after the ball deflected off the goalkeepers hands, Emma was able to put the ball in the open goal to tie the match and then quickly scored again for the lead,” said Bucs’ coach Todd Ledbetter whose Bucs won their first ever region title.

“At halftime I told our players to not doubt yourself even though you are behind but keep preserving.”

Coach Ledbetter also stated, “we have to be more productive and efficient Saturday as we have to score when the opportunities are there.”

Eight in a Row: Boyd Buchanan has now won eight straight against CSAS, including three wins this season. The last time CSAS beat the Bucs was in the 2008 district final.
