Respectfully and with a kind spirit, I want to rebut any idea that I (Joe Smith) do not have ties to District 3 in the upcoming vote for County Commission.
I have been a part of District 3 for most of my life. Most importantly, there are hundreds of young people and families in the district who I have worked with and provided heart-felt direction to address problems they were/are experiencing. Literally, these folks are walking testimonials for me and I take no credit.
I give all the credit to God. I spent eight years as a youth pastor for a church in Hixson. My life helping young people started in Hixson 25 years ago when I worked as a volunteer at the North River YMCA in Hixson. It was that experience that led to me being hired by the YMCA.
So to dispute my ties to the community is not truthful and sounds like politics as usual. But that's OK. Mr. Martin and his supporters can say or do whatever they like because I will continue to work hard to win this election with a positive message and a smile on my face.
My heart is to serve. I want to serve on the County Commission for all the right reasons and believe I can best represent all citizens of the district whether they be Democrats, Republicans, Independents or people with no political affiliation. Win or lose, I will continue to serve my fellow citizens in District 3 with a passion inspired by my roots in the district.
Joe Smith
