Erlanger Health System has launched its “Pink it Forward” campaign to promote breast cancer awareness during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and encourage women to get mammograms.
Throughout the month of October, Erlanger is encouraging people to use hair extensions and hair dyes to color their hair pink and upload pictures to social media sites using the hashtag, #pinkitforward2016. Social media users can then “pink it forward” by inviting others to participate in the challenge as well.
“Screening mammography it the gold standard for detecting breast cancer early, and early detection is vital to the treatment of breast cancer,” said Janet Kramer-Mai, Erlanger Center for Breast Health manager. “Women should begin getting regular mammograms at age 40, but only 66 percent of women 40 or older actually have an annual mammogram. The “Pink it Forward” Challenge is intended to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and mammograms.”
