RiverRocks Highlights For This Week

  • Tuesday, October 11, 2016

This week continues with several opportunities to enjoy Chattanooga’s great outdoors during RiverRocks.

Experienced cyclists will enjoy the new Lookout Mountain Challenge on Thursday, beginning at 9 a.m. Hosted by Velo View Bike Tours, this ride includes 27 miles with challenging climbing to the top of Chattanooga’s most iconic mountain.

On Friday, come enjoy our finale event “The Best Town (For) Ever” at the 700 Block of Cherry Street starting at 6pm. For two years in a row, Chattanooga has won the title of “Best Town Ever” in competitions by Outdoor Magazine and Toad & Co. Come celebrate what’s great about Chattanooga at this FREE event with entertainment which includes local bands, Ogya, TJG & the 423’s, and Milele Roots, along with a 23-foot jungle gym geo dome, a climbing wall and performer Edward Yates slacklining across from building to building.

Also on Friday, John Stokes and Dale Kerenahan host a unique opportunity to interact with birds of prey at the Wings to Soar Raptor program starting at 7 p.m. at the Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center.

Runners will gather at Stringer’s Ridge on Saturday, at 8 a.m. for The Cannonball Run, a four-mile trail loop that resumes at 9am if runners do not complete it in an hour. It’s grueling, tiring, and only for the strong at heart. There is also a 10k run for a less challenging course.

Also on Saturday, The Lula Lake Five Points 50 returns with Chattanooga’s Ultimate Endurance Mountain bike race. This race includes courses that involve uphill, downhill, smooth parts and harder parts to bike in. Post activities include camping, music, vendors, food and fun. New for 2016 is the 25-mile option. This event starts at 9 a.m. at Lula Lake Land Trust.

Another major event on Saturday is McLemore Cove Ramble, a 28-mile bike ride with moderate climbing starting at 9 a.m. Join Velo View Bike Tours on arguably the prettiest bike ride in the Chattanooga area. They will meet on Chattanooga’s North Shore, load everyone and their bikes into the Velo View Van, and then shuttle down to the Pigeon Mountain Grill, roughly 30 minutes south of town.

Runners will enjoy the Seven Bridges Marathon on Sunday, beginning at 7 a.m.. This race will take runners across the Tennessee River multiple times as they traverse the city. This race begins in Downtown Chattanooga.  Several other Seven Bridges events will be held throughout the day, including Desmond Doss Memorial 4 Bridges Half Marathon, starting at 7:30 a.m. It’s half the distance and half the price. The 2 Bridges 5K starts at 7:45 and will use only two of our bridges. The 5k is $35. Finally, the Kiddie K starts at 10am, with a 1k that kids can enjoy and feel great about running. The Kiddie K is $25. The Seven Bridges events offer something for everyone in the family and every distance runner.  The 7 Bridges Events will fill your whole Sunday and let you see the best of downtown.
