Chattanooga’s Live Music Scene – Last Week Of The Season For Riverfront Nights, Nightfall

It’s hard to believe, but another season of Nightfall and Riverfront Nights is winding down this coming Labor Day weekend. Nightfall is finishing up their 24th year, while Riverfront Nights is lowering the curtain on its 9th year. With a 25th anniversary and a 10th anniversary next year, a betting person would lay odds that 2016 will be a big year for both.

Friday night sees real Country music with the Malpass Brothers at Nightfall. When I interviewed Merle Haggard a few years ago, I asked him who in the business represented “genuine Country music.” His answer – The Malpass Brothers. I had chance to hear them at the Memorial Auditorium in 2007 when they opened for Merle. He was right – they were more like the retro acts of old – Merle, Waylon, Johnny, Hank Sr., and such. Opening for the Malpass Brothers are the Magic Birds. The UTC Marching Band will be on hand to perform at 6:30 p.m. in a precursor to the Mocs football season, which opens Saturday. Located in Miller Plaza at MLK and Market Street, check out the website at http://www.nightfallchattanooga.com.

Riverfront Nights, the Saturday night event at Ross’s Landing on the Chattanooga Riverfront, features Atlanta based indie rockers Stokeswood, with Country/Blues band Remembering January opening at 7 p.m. Also a free concert, Riverfront Nights has more info at http://riverfrontnights.com/index.html.
